Music: Spotify Recents Tag

09:00

Here's something you probably know about moi: I love music. I'm never without a good pair of headphones and getting that Spotify student discount was a game-changer. I've even released my own EP on Spotify! (Check it out HERE!) To give you an insight into my music tastes, here's a few well played tracks/albums from my Spotify, in a tag I'm naming the Spotify Recents Tag (imaginative, I know). Not a sponsored post, but I should point out this tag is exclusive to what I play on Spotify - otherwise I could go on for years about musicals!

Most Overplayed Album
Legally Blonde The Musical (Original Broadway Cast)
Three words: Home alone jam. You can bet your bottom dollar I know every word and most of the choreography from the show. I've managed to master the belt in 'So Much Better' as well, which, along with 'Omigod You Guys', very nearly made the Most Overplayed Song...

Most Overplayed Song
'Havana' - Camila Cabello
But that award goes to this banger. When I want a confidence boost, I pretend there's somebody in Havana for me and it brings the summer straight here. Brings some pretty terrible salsa/club dance moves along with it too... *shame face*

Favourite Solo Artist
Jamie McDell
Oh Lord, her writing is SUPREME. I fell in love with her music a good few years ago, when I heard a song called 'Just Too Smart' on her YouTube channel. She inspired me to get writing myself and now I finally have my own (mini) album too! Now, I'm obsessed with songs like 'Falling' and 'Tori' which are perfectly composed, meaningful jams that I LOVE. If you only listen to one artist from this blog post, let it be Jamie McDell.

Favourite Band
The 1975
Amazing feelings in life include: Passing your driving test, eating an incredible steak... and jamming to The 1975 in your best friend's car. One of the best nights of my live was seeing these guys live. Current personal favourite jam: 'Pressure', but to be honest it changes every second day.

Best Feel-Good Tune
'Still Feel Like Your Man' - John Mayer
This is the song that makes me grin from ear to ear. John Mayer's writing is phenomenal and like many things in my life, his absolute tunes were introduced to me by my best friend (same one as above, yes). Within the first six seconds of this song, I saved the album on Spotify and I never looked back.

Best Feel-Good Album
42nd Street (2017 London Cast)
This is an epic album that always puts a smile on my face. Having seen 42nd Street at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, earlier this year, I've stick this soundtrack on when I want to be reminded of the buzz of the stage, or when I feel like breaking out my tap moves (which are basic at best!) It's a really good all-rounder and there's a song for every mood, so stick it on and "Go into your dance!"

Best Newcomer
'In My Blood' - Shawn Mendes
I won't lie, I'm not a huge fan of Shawn Mendes' music on the whole, but I saw a cover of this by Ebony Day and thought I'd give the original a listen. Boy, did I fall in love: hard. I've played it at least 5 times a day, since I found it a couple of days ago, on Ebony's channel and the music video is simple, but effective. TUNE.

Favourite Sob-Song
'Space Cowboy' - Kasey Musgraves
Another hit suggestion from the bestie, this one is so cleverly written. It reminds me of the last episode of Hannah Montana (which if you grew up in the 00's, you definitely cried at!) - Kasey has an incredibly old-school country voice and together with the epic music, it's an amazing composition.

Favourite Playlist
'Summer Camp 🇺🇸'
My current favourite playlist is actually one I created for this summer, when I'll be going away to an American summer camp, for nine weeks! It's a load of summery songs that will make me feel super excited, even if I'm scared out of my mind, twelve-thousand feet in the sky! Perfect jam for me is 'Classic' - MKTO, which for some reason I can't help but grin to.

The Wooden Spoon Song (i.e. that one cheesy jammer you secretly adore)
'Dancing Queen' - From 'Mamma Mia!' Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
No reason needed. I'm not even going to pretend I don't grab a hairbrush and try to sing all three parts simultaneously.

Here's the full Spotify playlist so you can listen to all my recent favourites:

I've mentioned my bestie so much in this post because she's given me some real great tunes. Hollie, we have such a similar taste in music, so I'd be interested to know what's in your Spotify Recents. Tagging you to do this next! Go check out her blog righty HERE :)

That's all from me, see you next week!
